PARODY ON WOODMAN SPARE THAT TREE DEDICATED
TO THE CONSTITUTION

                        1st

             Oh, Spare that noble ship

Tear not her war worn frame

For on the deep blue wave

               She gained a priceless name

             Look at her ancient hull

               Her trim, her beauteous mould

             Do not condemn her yet

For she is not too old.

                        2d

             That same time honoured craft

When war's fierce blast rang round

             Mann'd with a daring crew

               At danger's post was found

             And in her sides received

               Full many a fearful shot

If You but think of this

I'm sure you'll harm her not.

                        3d

When I was quite a boy

               Old England's Cannon proud

             Swept o'er the azure main

               Bidding defiance loud

             She was equipp'd for fight

               And as the fierce broadsides

             Belch's forth upon her foes

               She lowered their haughty pride.

                        4th

             Should not our heartstrings cling

               Around each rib and plank

             And proudly point to her

               Who ne'er from danger shrank

Old Ship You still can brave

               The battles deaf'ning roar

             And prove upon the wave

               Your "Ironsides" once more.
