 6 Jan 1845  Midshipman Mason's funeral ended with 2 volleys of musketry.

 

 3 Feb 1845  [Monday]  Commodore Chads, RN, visited the ship ‑‑ 60 sick.

 

 7 Feb 1845  88 sick.

 

14 Feb 1845  Whitewashing the spirit room.

 

16 May 1845  [Friday]  Painting the ship outside.

 

27 May 1845  Fired 6 Paixhans shells at Cham Colloa [to SE], 2 with reduced charges [7#] and four with full [8#] ‑‑ four fell short [at a 2‑mile range], 1 air  burst, and 1 was on target.

 

30 May 1845  Painting the white streak.

 

 2 Jun 1845  [Monday]  One of the quarter or stern boats is named SPARROW.

 

 9 Jun 1845  Painting spars and inside of ship.

12 Jun 1845  [Saturday]  "Expended an old hammock to cover the Captain's 'Portrait,'  Logged by his order..."
